Mark Day
Mark had around 15 years hands on experience in banking/merchant banking before his first board role in the late 1990s. Since then he has held numerous board and committee positions primarily as a result of his skills and experience in finance/risk-related matters. Most of his board experience has been in the Not For Profit sector. Many of these appointments have been with large organisations involving the highest standards of governance and sophisticated governance structures. Mark has had to acquire the requisite governance skills to fulfill these roles, but he has also learned effective governance practice by working with experienced peers. In various roles, not least that of Principal of CTC, the consulting firm he established in the early 1990s, he has experienced first-hand the requirements of running a small company, but more importantly this role has provided exposure to a diverse range of clients. This diversity is in business size, industry and governance and management style. Whilst his consultancy work has required Mark to perform as a consultant, such a role also entails consideration of many of the functions of boards and senior management of client firms, thereby ‘learning by osmosis’ and adding breadth to his capability as a director. In his NED and Chairing roles Mark has had to work closely with senior management, at times guiding management as to how may better interact with the board. Today, mark spends approximately half his time as a NED and half consulting. He is married with three daughters (and a dog). Apart from his business life, Mark’s interests include reading, cycling and surfing.
